Channels Media Group has consistently maintained its position as Nigeria’s most valuable and influential media brand, a status reaffirmed by its award-winning journalism, innovative programming, and contribution to democratic development and nation-building. This leadership is not only through its flagship television station, Channels Television, but also through its growing digital platforms, multimedia operations, and reputation for credibility and professionalism.
Founded in 1995 by veteran broadcaster John Momoh (OON) and his wife, Sola Momoh, Channels Television has grown from a Lagos-based private station into a globally recognized media powerhouse. It is the first 24-hour independent news channel in Nigeria and has set the gold standard for news broadcasting in the country.
Channels Television is widely respected for its editorial independence, integrity, and balance in reporting. Its programs such as Sunrise Daily, Politics Today, Business Morning, Sports Tonight, and Channels Kids Cup have become household names, shaping public opinion and providing platforms for policy discourse. The station is also one of the few Nigerian broadcasters with international reach, having forged partnerships with CNN, BBC, Sky News, and Voice of America, thereby amplifying Nigeria’s voice globally.
The Media Group has been a pioneer in embracing digital transformation, with strong presence on online streaming platforms, YouTube, social media, and mobile apps, making Channels one of the most followed and trusted Nigerian news brands in the digital age.
Channels Media Group has won over 400 local and international awards, making it Nigeria’s most decorated media house. Notably, it is a 13-time winner of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA)/Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) for Best Television Station of the Year. In 2014, it became the first African media company to win the International Emmy Award for Best TV Station, cementing its global reputation.
Channels Media Group is also recognized for its corporate social responsibility (CSR), supporting democracy, good governance, and civic engagement through programs that give voice to citizens while holding leaders accountable.
