Tecno, a member Transsion Holdings is a premium smartphone and AIoT devices brand.
With “Stop At Nothing” as its brand essence, it is committed to unlocking the best contemporary technologies for progressive individuals across global emerging markets, giving them elegantly designed intelligent products that inspire consumers to uncover a world of possibilities.
Its portfolio spans across smartphones, tablets, smart wearables and AIoT devices made for consumers in over 70 emerging markets world-wide.
Tecno has recorded a tremendous growth in Africa especially, where its holding company, Transsion is reputed to be the largest phone manufacturer by volume sales in the continent, with such popular brands as Tecno, Infinix, itel and after sales service brand, Carlcare.
Although Transsion is headquartered in China, Nigeria and Africa at large have been its strong focus and success, with a controlling market share of both smart and feature phone market.
Transsion’s success in the African market has been attributed to tailoring its phones’ features to the needs of the market. They offer fine camara capabilities with phones with longer battery life, which are suited to low electrification rates in our limited power generation settings. The phones also included support for multiple African languages
Apart from its successes in the African market, Transsion is among the fastest growing smartphone brands in India, with a YoY growth of 40% in 2019. It was also the number one brand in the entry-level smartphone market.
Tecno mobile was introduced to the Nigerian market in 2001. Within a decade, the Chinese made phone, which has virtually zero name recognition inside China, had expanded across Africa. In 2017, the group overall overtook Samsung as the continent’s number one mobile phone supplier on the continent
In the face of fierce market competition, Transsion has established a brand that adapts to the market environment at various stages with the ‘Together We Can’ mantra
Tecno Telecom Limited was founded by George Zhu Zhaojiang, a Chinese businessman, and his business partner in July 2006 with its base in Hong Kong and a R&D centre in Shanghai, China. For the first 2 years of its existence, the company focused solely on the South Asian market. However, research garnered from early visits to Africa and Latin America convinced Zhaojiang and his team that Africa could be their most lucrative market.
