MultiChoice Nigeria: Illuminating Entertainment, Empowering Communities

MultiChoice Nigeria has established itself as a pioneering force in the entertainment industry, playing a pivotal role in bringing premium content to Nigerian households. Since its inception in 1993, when it launched Nigeria’s first digital satellite broadcasting service. From its humble beginnings with about 30 employees, the company has grown to employ over 2,000 dedicated professionals, creating an ecosystem that indirectly sustains over 20,000 jobs across the country.

MultiChoice Nigeria’s commitment to enriching lives is embodied in its popular DStv and GOtv platforms, which offer a wide array of entertainment options. A notable achievement is the localization of content, with over 70% of Nigerians now able to enjoy programming in their native languages, thanks to channels like Africa Magic Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa. This dedication to cultural representation has made MultiChoice a household name.

Beyond entertainment, MultiChoice Nigeria is a major contributor to the Nigerian economy. The company directly and indirectly contributed an impressive N636.4 billion to the economy between 2015-2019. This contribution extends through a complex supply chain that includes over 12,000 dealers, retailers, installers, sales agents, and more.

The brand’s influence extends far beyond the television screen. Through platforms like M-Net and Africa Magic, the it has played a crucial role in nurturing Nigeria’s creative industry. By commissioning series, reality shows, and films, MultiChoice has provided a platform for Nigerian talent to shine. Africa Magic has a bouquet of eight channels, offering top-quality programming that includes iconic shows like The Voice Nigeria, Big Brother Naija, and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

A shining example of MultiChoice’s dedication to the industry is the popular series Tinsel, which, with over 2,000 episodes, stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to high-quality content. The production of Tinsel alone has employed 1,200 staff and crew, highlighting MultiChoice’s role in creating job opportunities and contributing to the growth of the Nigerian film and television industry.
