DAAR Communications Plc pioneered private/independent broadcasting with the establishment of RayPower 100.5FM radio station which debut commercial broadcasting on September 1, 1994 in Lagos, Nigeria upon the deregulation of the broadcast sector in 1993 by Federal Government of Nigeria.
The organization also pioneered global satellite broadcasting on Dec 6, 1996 with the establishment of Africa Independent Television (AIT).
On October 7 2008, DAAR Communications Plc formally launched the first fully Nigerian base digital multi-channel direct-to-home subscription TV – Daarsat.
On December 1, 2012 an indigenous station FAAJI FM; that is broadcast basically in Yoruba spiced with some degree of Pidgin English was launched in Lagos
RayPower FM and Africa Independent Television (AIT) pioneered 24 hour broadcasting in Nigeria.

The media deregulation of the 1990s which allow private owned media houses to operate in Nigeria gave the way for, Raymond Dokpesi, a media mogul to obtained license and operate the first private broadcasting radio station, Raypower FM in 1994, this was followed by the first private television network in Nigeria, Africa Independent Television (AIT). This was also Africa’s first satellite T.V. station. Before now, news broadcast has been an exclusive duty of government owned Nigeria Television Authority, NTA.
Raypower 100.5 FM made history on the 1st of September, 1994 when it commenced commercial broadcasting in Lagos as the first 24 hour broadcast service station in Nigeria as well as the first private independent broadcasting station in the country. The station became an instant success, pioneering live radio twenty four hours a day, seven days a week interactive programming format that promoted immediate feedback on sensitive socio-political, economic and cultural issues. Raypower 100.5FM is in twelve locations across Nigeria.
The AIT television network broadcasts approximately 5,000 hours of TV programming each year, transmitting to more than 36 AIT owned television stations across Nigeria. These TV stations then broadcast the AIT signal to an estimated 99 percent of all homes in Nigeria with television sets. . In addition to airing AIT’s national programming, the AIT owned stations serve their communities by producing news, sports, and public affair programming that addresses local needs
DAARSAT
DAARSAT is DAAR Communications Plc pay-TV service on the digital terrestrial platform. The service which was recently launched will allow customers to receive some of DAARSAT’s most popular programming, including live Sports, Documentaries, Hollywood and Nollywood films.
This Direct to Home [DTH] pay-TV offering uses High Definition technology to broadcast a majority of its channels.
To receive this service, customers sign up through a dealer, pay a monthly subscription and are provided with a conventional decoder/digital TV box from which to receive the service from.
