MTN Nigeria, one of Africa’s largest telecom service providers has consistently maintained its position as the most valuable telecommunications brand in Nigeria, a status further reaffirmed by its performance in the annual Top Brands Evaluation and its dominance in the Nigerian mobile market.
As the largest mobile operator in Nigeria, MTN serves over 84 million subscribers and provides internet access to more than 50 million data users, making it a cornerstone of the country’s connectivity and digital economy. Since its establishment in 2001, the company has become one of Nigeria’s most critical corporate players, generating over ₦2.4 trillion in service revenue in the first half of 2025 alone and directly employing thousands of Nigerians.
In recent years, MTN Nigeria has intensified its investments in network infrastructure and digital inclusion. In 2025, the company launched the Dabengwa Tier-3 Data Centre, the largest of its kind in West Africa, boosting Nigeria’s data hosting and cloud service capacity. MTN also expanded its FibreX broadband project and mobile financial service platform, MoMo, which has created jobs for thousands of agents while driving financial inclusion.
MTN’s strong financial rebound in 2025 has been a highlight of its resilience. After recording a ₦392.7 billion loss in Q1 2024 due to forex challenges, the company returned to profitability in Q1 2025 with a ₦133.7 billion profit after tax, supported by a surge in service revenue, effective cost management, and regulatory approval of tariff adjustments. By mid-2025, MTN reported a 179.9% growth in profit after tax to ₦414.9 billion and an EBITDA margin above 50%.
Beyond business growth, MTN Nigeria continues to demonstrate strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. Through its MTN Foundation, the company has invested billions of naira in education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and community development projects. Notable initiatives include the Scholarship Scheme for tertiary students, the Yellow Doctor medical outreach programme, and digital literacy initiatives aimed at equipping young Nigerians with technology skills for the future.
Through its financial resilience, digital innovation, and community impact, MTN Nigeria remains not just the leader in telecommunications but also a key driver of Nigeria’s economic growth and sustainable development.
