The brand story

The FCMB story

FCMB Group traces its origins to 1982, when it was licensed as Nigeria's first indigenous merchant bank, and has since evolved into a diversified financial holding company structured across four divisions: Banking, Consumer Finance, Investment Banking, and Investment Management. FCMB completed its industry-wide bank recapitalisation exercise in early 2026, combining a public offer with the divestment of its minority stake in FCMB Pensions to meet the CBN's ₦500 billion capital requirement.

FY2025 audited results showed profit before tax rising 141.7% to ₦160.3 billion and gross revenue growing 41.9% to ₦794.4 billion, with analysts noting the growth was driven substantially by core business operations rather than one-off macroeconomic gains. That momentum continued into 2026, with half-year profit before tax up 99% to ₦157.3 billion and all four divisions recording significant growth: Consumer Finance up 92%, the Banking Group up 80%, Investment Banking up 76%, and Investment Management up 50%, with earning assets expanding 22% to ₦5.98 trillion.

FCMB's digital businesses, spanning payments, lending, and wealth management, continued to expand, with digital revenue accounting for 13.2% of Group gross earnings in the first half of 2026. On leadership, Yemisi Edun has served as Managing Director of First City Monument Bank since 2021, having joined the bank in 2000 and risen through internal audit and the CFO role; she was named Banker of the Year 2023 by Leadership Newspaper for her work steering the bank's SME financing strategy. In July 2026 FCMB convened its inaugural Healthcare Summit in Lagos, exploring financing and partnership opportunities within Nigeria's healthcare sector.
