The brand story

The Fidelity story

Fidelity Bank's total assets grew to ₦10.46 trillion for the year ended December 2025, supported by an 87% jump in cash and cash equivalents as management built up liquidity buffers. Group profit after tax came in at ₦347.7 billion, a 9.7% decline attributed to a ₦223.8 billion derivative loss tied to its UK operations, though FidBank UK still posted a positive operating profit for the year. That dip followed FY2024 results in which profit before tax jumped 210% to ₦385.2 billion, so the 2025 decline reads more as a normalisation than a reversal of fortune.

That profit dip followed one of the strongest years in the bank's recent history, with FY2024 profit before tax up 210% to ₦385.2 billion on the back of a high-yield rate environment, so the 2025 decline reads more as a normalisation than a reversal of fortune. Capital strength has been a consistent theme: Fidelity completed a ₦259 billion private placement in December 2025, lifting total capital raised to roughly ₦564.5 billion and pushing the bank past the CBN's recapitalisation threshold for its international banking licence, though its Capital Adequacy Ratio of 16.21% sits only 1.21 percentage points above the CBN's 15% minimum, a narrower cushion than the headline raise suggests. Its liquidity ratio, by contrast, remains comfortably strong at 66.5%, more than double the regulatory floor.

The bank underwent a board-level leadership change at the start of 2026, with Mrs. Amaka Onwughalu, a board member since December 2020, succeeding Mustafa Chike-Obi as Board Chairman after his tenure oversaw the Eurobond repayment and UK expansion, while Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Fidelity's first female MD/CEO since December 2021, remains in the top executive role. Fidelity continues to position itself around SME banking, diaspora banking, and non-oil export finance through initiatives like the Fidelity International Trade and Creative Connect programme, and was the first bank in Nigeria to publish a Sustainability and Climate Report aligned with International Sustainability Standards Board guidelines.
