The brand story

The Moniepoint story

Moniepoint's climb in Nigeria's 2026 brand ranking, thirteen places, ranks second only to OPay among all brands evaluated, and the underlying numbers explain why: the company processed ₦412 trillion across more than 14 billion transactions during 2025, with a widely cited internal statistic putting its share of in-person digital payments in Nigeria at roughly eight in every ten transactions.

Having built its initial scale through agency banking and point-of-sale terminals, Moniepoint has spent the past two years layering a full banking stack on top: personal and business accounts under its microfinance bank licence, and a lending operation that disbursed over ₦1 trillion during 2025 alone, a book carrying real credit risk, with sector-wide non-performing loans at 7% in 2025 and analysts estimating Moniepoint's own ratio at a comparable level. The Central Bank upgraded Moniepoint's licence to national status in January 2026, formalising an operational reality already in place given its footprint across all 774 Local Government Areas, though the upgrade carries new obligations including a higher minimum capital requirement and a mandate for physical dispute-resolution offices, and followed an earlier 2024 CBN penalty of ₦1 billion for KYC non-compliance.

On the capital side, Moniepoint closed an additional $90 million in October 2025 to complete its Series C round, bringing total Series C proceeds to $200 million and total funding raised to roughly $257.5 million across seven rounds, led by Development Partners International with participation from the IFC, Leapfrog Investments, Google's Africa Investment Fund, and Visa; market estimates place the company's implied valuation in the region of $3.1 billion by early 2026. The company is also pursuing international expansion, including a UK launch aimed at diaspora banking, even as the CBN's April 2026 single-principal rule tightens oversight of point-of-sale operations across the sector.
