The brand story
The Olam story
Olam Nigeria was incorporated in 1989 by the Kewalram Chanrai Group as a non-oil export operation, beginning with cashew exports before expanding into cotton, cocoa, and sheanuts, and later becoming the founding operation of what grew into Olam International. Following Olam Group's 2020 corporate reorganisation, its Nigerian operations were consolidated under Olam Agri, anchored by Crown Flour Mill, a wheat milling, semolina, and pasta business acquired in 2010 that has grown from two factories into a nine-plant nationwide operation, and which the company describes as Nigeria's leading wheat miller and pasta manufacturer; in May 2026, Crown Flour Mill launched two new products, Mama's Choice Wheat Flour and Mama's Pride Semolina, extending a portfolio that includes the long-established Mama Gold brand.
The second principal business line is animal feed and protein, comprising integrated poultry feed and aqua feed facilities in Kaduna and Kwara states built on an investment of approximately $150 million, with combined poultry feed capacity exceeding 800,000 metric tonnes annually and 150,000 metric tonnes of aqua feed under the Chikun, Ultima, Blue Crown, Aqualis, EcoFloat, and Alpha brands, alongside a soybean crushing plant described as the largest of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa. Olam Agri states its Nigerian operations make it the country's largest procurer of corn and soybean, sourced through a farmer network exceeding 500,000 smallholders nationwide.
The most significant corporate development affecting Olam's Nigerian operations came at the parent level: on 27 April 2026, the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC) completed its acquisition of a majority shareholding in Olam Agri, part of a broader reorganisation at Olam Group to unlock shareholder value. Olam Agri's animal feed business continues its back-to-school scholarship programme, and Crown Flour Mill's Flour Angels Academy training initiative marked over 1,000 graduates during the period; the company was also recognised by the Top Employers Institute as a Top Employer in Nigeria for 2026, and across Africa for the sixth consecutive year.
