The brand story
The Stanbic IBTC story
Stanbic IBTC Holdings closed FY2025 with its best financial performance since inception, a phrase the company's own board used to describe the year. Gross earnings rose 38.09% to ₦1,136.9 billion, profit after tax climbed 69.01% to ₦380.8 billion, total assets grew 25% to ₦8.62 trillion, and customer deposits expanded 45% to ₦4.37 trillion, with Return on Equity at 42.4%, one of the stronger figures among Nigeria's listed banking groups. The Board proposed total dividends of ₦6.50 per share for the year, up from ₦5.00 in FY2024, and shares in the company had climbed close to 89% year-to-date by the time audited results were released in April 2026.
That growth was underwritten by a ₦181 billion Rights Issue concluded in July 2025, oversubscribed by nearly 22%, which brought the Group's banking subsidiary comfortably past the CBN's ₦500 billion recapitalisation threshold well ahead of the March 2026 deadline. Leadership changed hands during the period: Chukwuma Nwokocha, a chartered accountant with more than three decades of leadership experience across African financial institutions, was named substantive Group Chief Executive effective 2 October 2025, succeeding Kunle Adedeji, who had served as Acting Chief Executive and returned to his CFO role.
Stanbic IBTC's diversified business mix continues to set it apart from conventional deposit-taking banks: beyond the bank itself, the Group operates ten direct subsidiaries spanning pension management, asset management, stockbroking, trusteeship, and investment banking, with Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers remaining the industry leader in Nigeria's pension fund administration space. As a member of the Standard Bank Group, Africa's largest banking group by assets, Stanbic IBTC continues to draw on continental scale few purely domestic competitors can match.
