MAX

MAX, formerly Metro Africa Xpress and MAX.ng, is a Lagos-based electric mobility company founded in 2015 by Adetayo Bamiduro (CEO) and Chinedu Azodoh. It started as a motorcycle delivery and ride-hailing service. After Lagos banned commercial motorbikes (okada) in 2020, it pivoted to vehicle subscriptions and financing, then to electric vehicles. In January 2025 it dropped "NG" from its name to signal a pan-African mission.

Today MAX provides electric motorcycles and tricycles, battery-swapping infrastructure and pay-as-you-go financing that lets commercial riders earn their way to ownership. It operates an assembly plant in Ibadan and runs in Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon, with Nigeria as its core market. The company reports more than 9 million trips completed and says it has reached profitability in Nigeria.

Investors have backed the shift. In January 2026 MAX closed a $24 million equity and debt round, with equity from Equitane DMCC, Novastar Ventures and Endeavor Catalyst, plus asset-backed debt from the Energy Entrepreneurs Growth Fund. Earlier backers include Lightrock, Yamaha Motor and Suzuki Global Ventures, and total funding is reported at about $87 million.

Bamiduro says the new capital will help MAX scale faster, deepen its clean energy infrastructure and build a pan-African mobility platform. With a profitable home market and proven asset-backed model, MAX is a standout electric mobility brand for 2027.
