Africhange
Fintech · PaymentsCross-border payments for the African diaspora across 100+ corridors.
Africhange is a cross-border payments company founded in 2020 by Canadian immigrant David Ajala, who is its founder and CEO. It is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. Ajala spotted Bitcoin's remittance potential as early as 2012 and ran a Bitcoin exchange in Nigeria from 2015. He later pivoted into remittances, using crypto as the payment rails behind a simple user experience.
The bootstrapped company serves diaspora customers in Canada, the UK, Nigeria and Australia across more than 100 corridors, in currencies including USD, CAD, NGN, GBP, KES and GHS. It reports over 300,000 customers and about three million transactions processed. Regulation is a strength: it is registered with FINTRAC in Canada, holds a UK Authorised Payment Institution licence, and has a Central Bank of Nigeria International Money Transfer Operator licence that lets it handle inward remittances into Nigeria directly. It was also among the first 300 entities registered under Canada's Retail Payment Activities Act.
Recent moves include a partnership with Griffin to offer GBP bank and savings accounts to UK users, plus USD virtual accounts and new crypto-powered features, as Africhange builds toward a broader multi-currency platform. In February 2026 it won Best Cross-Border Payment Solution at the Business Awards UK Fintech Awards, a sign of growing recognition heading into 2027.
