PiggyVest began in January 2016 as Piggybank.ng, a digital savings platform built around a familiar Nigerian idea: putting money aside regularly and keeping it away from everyday spending. After three years of operating primarily as a savings service, it rebranded as PiggyVest in April 2019 and expanded into direct investment opportunities.

The idea behind the business came from a simple observation about saving culture. The company's founders were inspired by a social-media post about a woman who had saved ₦1,000 every day in a traditional wooden savings box, or kolo, and saw an opportunity to reproduce that discipline in a digital environment.

PiggyVest has built much of its brand around financial discipline and the idea of making saving easier. The company says more than six million customers currently use the platform, with users saving and investing billions of naira through the service each month.

With a maiden FBSI Score of 70.2/100, PiggyVest ranks sixth among the 20 fintech brands assessed in this year's listing. Its position reflects the strength of a brand that has built considerable recognition around a relatively focused proposition: helping Nigerians develop better saving habits while giving them access to investment opportunities.
