The brand story
The BUA Group story
Founded in 1988 by Abdul Samad Rabiu, BUA Group has grown from a commodity trading operation into a diversified industrial powerhouse spanning cement, sugar refining, real estate, oil and gas, port operations, and agribusiness. Its two listed flagships, BUA Cement and BUA Foods, together rank among the largest companies on the Nigerian Exchange, with a combined market capitalisation of roughly ₦26 trillion as of early 2026.
The 2025 financial year was transformative for both businesses: BUA Cement crossed the trillion-naira revenue mark for the first time, with revenue up 34.6% to ₦1.18 trillion and profit after tax surging 381.7% to ₦356.04 billion, the highest net profit margin among Nigeria's three major cement producers, while BUA Foods posted group revenue of ₦1.77 trillion with profit after tax nearly doubling to ₦518.39 billion. Both stocks delivered exceptional shareholder returns, rising more than 90% during the year, and Rabiu's own estimated net worth more than doubled over the period, from roughly $5.1 billion at the start of 2025 to over $11-14 billion by mid-2026 according to Forbes and Bloomberg estimates, placing him among Africa's wealthiest individuals alongside Aliko Dangote.
BUA continued its expansion drive into 2026, signing an agreement with China's CBMI to build a new 3-million-tonne-per-annum cement line in Sokoto State that will lift total installed cement capacity to roughly 20 million tonnes a year, paired with a 700-tonne-per-day mini LNG plant in Kogi State to supply cleaner energy to the new line and existing facilities. The company remains a major beneficiary of federal trade policy that has supported affordable food imports, and the BUA Foundation continues to invest heavily in health, education, infrastructure, and social welfare, building on a track record that included some of the largest private-sector COVID-19 relief donations in Nigeria.
