The brand story
The Hi-Tech Construction story
Founded in 1988 as part of the Chagoury Group, Hitech Construction built its early reputation on genuine engineering achievement, executing the Bar Beach Shoreline Protection project in Victoria Island, the first project of its kind in Africa to deploy massive x-shaped concrete blocks to dissipate wave energy along an eroding coastline. That expertise carried directly into Eko Atlantic City, where Hitech built the development's sea wall and every bridge constructed within the city to date.
The scale of Hitech's current workload is of an entirely different order: the company holds the full contract for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a roughly 700-kilometre road estimated at $13 billion, and in 2026 was awarded a section of the even larger Sokoto-Badagry Highway, a planned corridor exceeding 1,000 kilometres crossing seven states, with its Kebbi section alone valued at ₦1.7 trillion. A related Chagoury Group company, ITB Nigeria, separately secured the roughly ₦1.4 trillion contract to modernise Lagos's Apapa and Tin Can Island seaports.
The awarding of these contracts has drawn public scrutiny over tender processes and the Chagoury family's long-standing relationship with President Bola Tinubu, dating back to when Tinubu was Lagos State governor and granted the group the land title underlying Eko Atlantic City, a matter that remains a live public question and the subject of ongoing litigation over the Lagos-Calabar Highway's procurement process. Hitech's supporters point to the company's demonstrated track record, including the widely regarded success of the Eko Atlantic sea wall and past work for clients including the Aluminium Smelting Company of Nigeria and Nigerian Breweries, as evidence that heavy-construction capacity of its caliber is genuinely scarce in Nigeria.
