The brand story
The ThisDay story
ThisDay Media Group's core business remains built around ThisDay Newspaper, founded in January 1995 and published from Apapa, Lagos, with offices across all 36 states and the FCT. Since 2013, ThisDay has operated alongside Arise News, a 24-hour international news channel with studios in Lagos, Abuja, London, New York, and Johannesburg, broadcasting across Sky, DStv, and GOtv platforms to an audience the company describes as extending across more than 50 African countries.
The Group's event calendar, including the long-running ThisDay Awards and Arise Fashion Week, has continued largely unchanged and remains a fixture of Nigeria's business and social calendar. Editorially, the newspaper continues under Managing Director Eniola Bello and Editorial Board Chairman Olusegun Adeniyi, alongside a masthead of senior editors covering politics, business, and society.
The Group's ownership structure has faced separate legal scrutiny tied to General Hydrocarbons Limited, an oil and gas company controlled by the same ownership group but a distinct legal entity from ThisDay's publishing operations: in late 2024 and into 2025 a Federal High Court in Lagos issued Mareva injunctions freezing an estimated $225.8 million in assets over an alleged unpaid debt to First Bank of Nigeria, with First Bank's underlying claim reportedly running as high as $718 million once related facilities are included, a matter that remains a live legal dispute contested by the company's lawyers. There is no public indication that editorial operations at ThisDay or Arise have been disrupted, and the Group's newspaper and events business continues to draw Nigeria's political and business elite.
